The first step is often the hardest, but it is also the most important, and that step is to simply get started. It’s easy to become overwhelmed with the amount of information that can be found on weight loss or fat loss programs, but there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to speeding up fat loss. Search for a basic fitness program that you like, and then make any adjustments you need to as you go along.

Find a Fitness Program

Most people think that in order to be successful in losing weight, they must first start out with an intensive fitness routine. Don’t worry so much about trying to figure out which exercises are the best for losing body fat. What’s more important is that you begin SOME form of fitness regime. Buying the latest elliptical machine, ab lounger, bicycle, or treadmill is not necessary, but what is required is the ability to decide on a regimen and the determination to stick to it.

You can find many great exercise routines on DVD, like kick boxing, celebrity workouts, and other aerobic programs, but don’t feel like you have to be stuck inside your house. A great way to get started is by simply taking a walk. This practice is usually the easiest to get started with, especially if you have a long history of being a couch potato. It’s also great for those with a tight budget since your only investment here would be a good pair of walking shoes, and you would only need to set aside a minimum of 30 minutes, 2 or 3 times a week, for “brisk walking.”

Start with the Basics

If you are ready to start losing excess body fat and weight, then you must understand the fundamentals, otherwise you are only setting yourself up for failure. Remember basic stuff like doing plenty of cardio, lifting weights, and burning more calories than you consume each day. Try to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large ones. And don’t skip meals, as this will only cause a decline in your metabolism. From the Mayo Clinic Staff we learn,

Despite all the diet strategies out there, weight management still comes down to the calories you take in versus those you burn off. Fad diets may promise you that avoiding carbs or eating a mountain of grapefruit is the secret to weight loss, but it’s really all about calories.

Keep the amount of fat you intake low, but include small amounts of good fats. Eat as many all natural foods as possible, avoiding things that are processed or full of refined sugars. A diet with things like complex carbs, fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins is a great way to start. One the most important things you can do is to think positive, and to visualize yourself as you would like to be.

There is no time like the present to get started on your weight and body fat loss journey, and the sooner you get started, the sooner you will be able to enjoy the benefits.
